It’s always nice to get away for a short break. I found myself in Prague in the Czech Republic for a few days. The city is beautiful and has the bonus of being a great city to run round so I didn’t let the fitness training slip too much. While walking around the many market stalls a painting caught my eye. It totally struck a chord with me. Three old guys sitting chatting round a table in a log cabin overlooking mountains and a lake.
I got chatting to the artist and immediately made a weird sort of connection. Well as much as possible considering his broken English and my Scottish accent. His name is Askhat Akhmetov. He is originally from Kazakhstan but now lives in Prague and sells his works from a Market stall. The word Kazakh is derived from an ancient Turik word meaning “Independent, free spirit”. A perfect link with the mountain men depicted in his painting. I have many mountain stories but am looking forward to plenty more experiences over the next few decades and hopefully a little mountain lodge too.
