Each Autumn there is a mad dash by a number of ski resorts in North America to see who will take the honours for opening first. Arapahoe Basin in Colorado took the title in 2013. They opened on October 13th with 18 inches of mostly man made snow. Snowmaking is currently well under way. I think they will need to have the snow cannons running 24hours a day to beat last years showing. The temperatures are staying low though so you never know! In Europe things are looking a little rosier. There are currently a number of resorts open across Austria, Italy and Switzerland. The Swiss resorts of Zermatt and Pontresina are both reporting POWDER! conditions. Things are definitely cooling down across the Northern Hemisphere after a stonking summer. Lets do a little snow dance to ensure a great summer is followed by a very powderful winter.
